Shabang Inclusive Learning are looking for a Well-being Advocate/Practitioner to join the Shabang team and deliver sessions to parents, carers and people with additional needs. The candidate would also be required to support and mentor a person with additional needs.

We are looking for someone who has practical experience within the field of creative well-being, has knowledge and/or experience of working within the field of additional needs, is willing to work in a flexible way and be interested and committed to working as part of our close knit team.

Hours of work:         

8 x hours per week, flexible working, some evenings and weekends

Place of work:          

Old Providence Chapel, Hollins Row, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield HD7 5LA

The Chapel is a recently re-furbished, fully accessible building

Fee:

£18.75/hour

Length of Post:        

1 year initially, ideally starting March 2023, with the possibility of continuing until September 2025

Requirements:         

Due to the nature of this post, the post holder is required to have an

Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This can be undertaken for the successful applicant if necessary.

This role is part of Shabang’s successful 3-year Promising Future programme of activities funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities programme.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:-

Experience

  1. experience of developing and using creative ideas to develop well-being sessions
  2. experience and or understanding of working with children and people with additional needs
  3. experience of mentoring or supporting a person with additional needs in a trainee /assistant role

Knowledge

  1. knowledge of issues in the field of additional needs
  2. knowledge of well-being techniques and practices
  3. knowledge of Makaton signing

Skills and Abilities

  1. able to network and work constructively internally and with external community partners
  2. able to work in a team setting as well as individually
  3. empathic and able to support others
  4. able to communicate confidently and effectively face to face, in group settings and in writing
  5. able to motivate people
  6. able to follow procedures, to be well organised and plan and prioritise your work
  7. able to work with and support children and people with additional needs
  8. be computer literate – we use Apple computers and tablets
